Luxury brands often benefit solely from name recognition because the vehicles produced are designed with the best interior features and technology, all paired with top-notch performance. The 2018 Porsche Macan, Audi Q5, and Mercedes GLE Coupe are top competitors in the luxury SUV segment, but the Macan stands out in several categories.
There are a handful of performance options on these three models. The Porsche Macan and Audi Q5 offer nearly identical base-trim 2.0-liter powertrains, each producing 252 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque when paired to comparable seven-speed automatic transmissions. However, unlike the Audi, the Porsche Macan offers an upgraded 3.6-liter V6, producing 400 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. The Mercedes GLE Coupe comes standard with a 3.0-liter V6, producing 385 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque. While the Mercedes does offer an additional engine upgrade, it loses efficiency when compared to the Porsche Macan.
Inside the cabin, the 2018 Porsche Macan comes standard with front and rear leather- and Alcantara®-trimmed seats. The range-topping Macan Turbo swaps out those seats for 18-way smooth-finish leather Adaptive Sport Seats with memory and heated front seats. With only two trim levels, the Mercedes GLE Coupe lacks the customization you get in the Macan, with MB-Tex upholstery on the base trim. The Audi Q5 doesn’t quite live up to the Macan’s standards, either, with basic leather seating surfaces across all trims.
The technology features you find on the base-level Mercedes GLE Coupe are the only ones you’ll get. While it does come with basic features like Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, you don’t have the option to add on any extras. The Audi Q5 offers a bit more customization, with available Keyless Start, Stop, and Entry. The most high-tech features, though, find their way into the cabin of the Porsche Macan. On the Macan Turbo, you’ll be able to enjoy a 14-speaker BOSE® surround sound audio system, including a subwoofer. You can manage your infotainment on a 7-inch high-resolution Porsche Communication Management System (PCM), including navigation.
While all three of these luxury brands make strong competitors, there’s no denying that the 2018 Porsche Macan stands out among the crowd. To learn more about the Macan, visit us at Porsche of Spokane.
